Sinus Infection

Anyone who has ever suffered the pain of a true sinus headache, the congestion, fever, and sinus drainage, knows how miserable you can be, and most sufferers would do almost anything to alleviate the pain of the infection.

Symptoms of sinus infections are stuffy or a runny nose, drainage down the back of your throat, coughing, pain in the face, forehead, and even the feeling of a toothache.

While fever accompanying a sinus infection is a clear case in which you should consult a doctor, and follow his directions concerning the usage of antibiotics and other treatments, there are home remedies and natural cures available to treat the discomfort of a sinus infection.

Home Remedies for Sinus Infections:

Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and Pine Essential Oil:

An effective home remedy to ease the pain of a sinus infection begins by mixing one drop of eucalyptus oil, one drop of tea tree oil, and one drop of pine essential oil. Add this mixture to four cups of hot water, put it in a pan and warm it, and using a towel to form a tent over your head and the steaming liquid, breath in the steam for approximately 15 minutes.

This method of treatment can be repeated three to four times a day. An alternative home remedy is wetting a wash cloth in the warm mixture and place on the face and head to ease the pain of the sinus infection.

*Note: essential pine oil has been associated with an increase in high blood pressure. If you have, or suspect you have, high blood pressure, eliminate the essential pine oil from this mix.

Use a Vaporizer:

If you are suffering from a sinus infection, blowing your nose hard, will force the blockage higher into your sinus, and should be avoided, but another home remedy to help you sleep more comfortably at night, are sleeping with your head elevated.

In addition, sleeping with a vaporizer nearby is a natural remedy for sinus infections. Be sure the vaporizers is clean and mold free, and add a drop or two of the oil mixtures above, to aid this natural cure for infected sinuses.

Saline Spray:

Another effective natural cure and preventative is to boil one quart of water, pour it into a sterile jar or bottle, add one tablespoon of salt, and mix well. Spray this into the nostrils, wait about a minute, and blow your nose.

This home remedy actually helps expel the bacteria present, and helps to soften the mucus, so it can be naturally expelled by your body.
