Gallbladder

A gallbladder is described as a small pear shaped organ measuring approximately 3 to 4 inches long and around 1 inch wide.

The gallbladder is a sac that can be located right under the liver. It mainly functions to store and concentrate bile.

The bile is a bitter yellow, blue and green fluid produced by the liver cells to aid in fat digestion. It is released from the gallbladder to be secreted into the upper intestine or duodenum in response to fatty meals.

Gallbladder disease arises when there is an obstruction to the flow of bile out of the gallbladder. Inflammation of the gallbladder, or cholecystitis and gallstones, medically termed cholelithiasis, are two most common types of gallbladder diseases.

Severe abdominal pain located in the right upper quadrant or in the upper middle of the abdomen is the usual complaint. The pain is worse after eating or drinking fatty foods and fluids.

Abdominal fullness or gas, chest pain underneath the breastbone, fever, chills, heartburn, nausea and vomiting are the other symptoms of gallbladder disease.

Natural Cures for Gallbladder:

There are a number of home remedies that can be utilized to maintain the proper function of the gallbladder and to get rid of the predisposing factors of gallbladder diseases.

Healthy Diet:

One of the best ways to improve gallbladder health is to watch your diet. A diet that is high in fat and cholesterol and low in fiber causes the development of gallbladder disease.

Your regular meals should include fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean meat, poultry and fish and low fat dairy products.

Healthy Weight:

If you are overweight, it is advised to lose the extra pounds. Do not resort to crash diet programs.

Weight reduction must be done gradually. Studies reveal that there is a link between quick weight loss and the formation of gallstones.

Crash diets cause the liver to release more cholesterol into the bile. The extra cholesterol forms crystals, subsequently, leading to gallstones.

Gallbladder Cleansers:

Fresh juices of beets, cucumbers and carrots are the three best natural gallbladder cleansers.

Combine all three natural juices in quantities of 100 mL each to enhance gallbladder function. The combined juice should be taken twice daily.

Dandelion is another home remedy for gallbladder health. In a glass, combine 125 mL each of the juices of dandelion and watercress. This combined juice should be taken twice daily.
