Vomiting

Vomiting, known in medical books as emesis, has occurred to most people at one point in their lives.

Considered to be one of the bodies defense mechanisms, vomiting is the “throwing up” or expulsion of any contents which may be in the stomach.

When a person vomits, it is the body’s way of attempting to get rid of harmful substances that have been swallowed.

Ingesting toxic, harmful substances is not the only reason a person might find themselves vomiting, however.

There are many reasons vomiting might occur, with some of them being:

  • Pregnancy
  • Surgery
  • Particular drugs (OTC medications, prescription medications, and illegal drugs)
  • The act of spinning to fast, like may occur on a theme part ride
  • Sights and smells which are extremely distasteful and disgusting
  • Bacterial and viral illnesses

Home Remedies for Vomiting:

Although a completely natural occurrence, vomiting is not a pleasant experience.

There are several home remedies which you can try to help you with symptoms of vomiting. A few of these home remedies are:

Ginger Ale:

The best known home remedy for vomiting is good old ginger ale.

Whenever struck by a bout with nausea and vomiting, taking very small sips of ginger ale over a long period of time will help settle the stomach.

Although this cannot be called a natural cure, as vomiting can and will happen after your drink this beverage (sometimes) it will help settle the stomach between bouts and may actually settle it enough that you won’t vomit anymore.

Abstain From Eating and Drinking:

One way to help stop vomiting and keep it from coming back is to let the stomach rest.

Don’t eat or drink anything after a vomiting spell for 30 minutes to an hour.

This natural cure for vomiting works because there won’t be anything in the stomach to “throw up”.

Hard Candies (Peppermint, Cinnamon and Butterscotch):

Known by pregnant women over the whole world as a great natural remedy for vomiting, these candies will help take the horrible taste out of your mouth after you have had a bout.

They also tend to help the stomach settle, which in turn will stop future vomiting from occurring.

Saltine Crackers:

One of the simplest natural cures for vomiting is saltine crackers.

After a bout with vomiting has subsided, nibble on several crackers over a long period of time.

Colas or Coca Cola Syrup:

Any of the carbonated drinks referred to as a “cola” can be used as home remedies for vomiting.

Coca Cola Syrup, found OTC at your local pharmacy, can also assist in stopping this unpleasant bodily function.

Sip these over ice, just as you would ginger ale, to help settle the tummy and prevent vomiting from continuing.
