Skin Care

The largest organ in the body is skin. We subject it to makeup, too much sun, and too little gentle, loving care.

Keeping your skin free of pore clogging dead skin cells, keeping it moisturized, and protecting it from further sun damage are the first steps in the right direction to good skin care.

Home Remedies for Skin Care:

Diet:

Try to have lots of different colored, organic, foods and beverages everyday. Brightly colored substances are high in antioxidants that boost the immune system.

These in whole foods have anti-inflammatory and immuno-modulating qualities:

  • Purple (Flavonoid and anthocyanadin-rich foods): beets, red cabbage, chard, red onions, blueberries, cherries, cranberries, strawberries, blood oranges, and purple grapes with skins.
  • Green (Chlorophyll-rich foods): wild salad greens, kale, spinach, collards, bell peppers, asparagus, and artichokes.
  • Yellow and Orange (carotene and bioflavonoid-rich foods): carrots, citrus fruits, onions, beets, pumpkins, winter squash, yams, and sweet potatoes.
  • Red (Lycopene-rich foods): tomatoes, pink grapefruit, guava, watermelon, and dried apricots.
  • Legumes: lentils, split peas, black beans, and azuki beans.
  • Seeds: pumpkin, sunflower seeds, sesame seeds, and flax seeds.
  • Nuts: almonds, cashews, pecans, extra virgin coconut oil, and flax oil.
  • Fish: wild Salmon, mackerel, halibut, sardines, and herring.
  • Fowl or Meat: chicken, turkey, duck, and lamb.
  • Whole Grains:brown rice, wild rice, and barley.
  • Spices like garlic, chives, ginger, black pepper, sea salt, cilantro, parsley, horseradish, turmeric (curry powder), cayenne, mint, basil, rosemary, thyme, kelp, dulse, oregano, and cinnamon.
  • Water: at least eight glasses of distilled or spring water every day.

Avoid heavily processed or refined foods, and fried foods full of saturated fat.

Magnesium:

Most people do not get enough magnesium in their diets, and skin literally drinks in magnesium. Purchase a bottle of generic milk of magnesia. Wash your face gently then applying a warm cloth for several minutes, to open the pores, before applying a mask of milk of magnesia with a cotton ball. Allow this mask to rest on the skin for up to half an hour. It will calm stressed skin, shrink pores, help manage acne, and help repair sun related skin damage.

Vitamin E:

Vitamin E gel caps, opened, and applied to clean skin each night before bed, is a great restorative to promote good skin care.

Oils:

Dry skin responds well to plantain oil, calendula oil, and chamomile baths.

Irritated skin responds well to nettle oil, plantain oil, Balmflower ointment, aloe, and aloe oil, and Melissa oil.
