Lack of Sleep & Anxiety

The inability to fall asleep due to any form of anxiety is common.

This sleep deprivation can occur once and awhile around big events, changes to your diet, or because of some sad event or episode of depression.

It can also occur due to excessive worry over bills or other life issues.

Just like your children, your body needs sleep. If you are having a hard time falling to sleep or staying asleep due to anxiety there are several things that you can do to help your body relax and allow it to fall asleep.

Natural Remedies for Lack of Sleep and Anxiety:

Acupuncture:

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years and has successfully treated many conditions. Acupuncture can rebalance the flow of energy through the body offering relief in so many different ways. If you are experiencing anxiety it will most likely improve your anxiety levels and the fatigue that can come along with it.

Manage Your Time:

If the lack of sleep you are experiencing is due to stress and anxiety because you don't have enough time during the day, try managing your time with a schedule. Write down everything that needs to be done, focus on the most important items first.

Get others involved to help out and delegate where you can.

Take Care of Yourself:

Make sure that you get exercise every day. This is essential in making sure that your body can relax when it is time to sleep. Complete the exercise at least two hours before your bedtime. Exercise can have a mild stimulating affect right after you finish. Make sure you don’t drink or eat anything that can be considered a stimulant within two hours of your bed time.

No coffee, chocolate, caffeinated teas or anything containing sugar.

Melatonin, Valerian, and Theanine:

Melatonin, Valerian, and Theanine can be found in supplements. These substances promote normal sleep patterns, and relaxation that will help rid the mind of anxiety. Melatonin is often use on its own. These supplements can be very effective on some people, and won’t make a bit of visible difference to others. Until you try these substances you won’t know if they will work for you or not.

GABA or Gamma-aminobutyric Acid:

Sold in health food stores as GABA, this amino acid is normally produced by the brain. Natural GABA regulates nervous system excitability and allows you to relax, turn the mind off and sleep. As a supplement GABA is used to treat sleep deprivation because it relaxes the body and is essential in controlling anxiety.

There are other supplements that increase the body’s ability to produce its own GABA. One of these is a combination called Seredyn. Seredyn contains L-theanine, valerian, and passion flower. All of these ingredients are effective treatments for anxiety, but combined in a supplement, they offer an effective herbal treatment for anxiety and sleep deprivation.
