Ledum Palustre/ Ledum / Led

Formal Name: Ledum Palustre

Also Known As: Ledum, Wild Rosemary, Marsh Tea

Wild Rosemary, in the form of Marsh Tea, has been used since the 13th century as a method of ridding lice and other pests in households in Scandinavia.

It was also used as a substitute for tea in 1773 after the tea tax was imposed in the American Colonies.

Wild Rosemary was first used medicinally to help with throat infections and coughs due to its antiseptic qualities.

Within homeopathy, it was found to have a wide range of uses as well as the antiseptic application for which it was originally used in mainstream medicine. This homeopathic preparation was proven and became a very helpful remedy to sufferers.

The homeopathic remedy that is derived from the Wild Rosemary plant is called ledum, and, as is common with homeopathic remedies, there are virtually no traces remaining of the plant when the preparation is complete.

Ledum is prepared by harvesting the plant as it begins to flower in summer. However it is important to note that only the tips of the leafy shoots are the part of the plant that is utilized in the preparation. They are then dried and steeped in alcohol. What remains is a potent homeopathic remedy that has several different applications.
