Guide to Home Remedies

With the different medications that are on the shelves of our pharmacies today, it’s no wonder that people are becoming less trusting. After all, we worry about what is in medicines, whether they work, what effect they may have on us in the future, and other how they may react to something else we are taking. Indeed, many of these medications are so overused that they no longer work because our bodies have built immunity to them. Where does that leave us when it comes to curing some of the common every day things that attack us?

Home remedies have been passed to us from our parents and grandparents, and maybe great-grandparents, and in spite of what modern medicine would have us believe, many of the natural cures that were used in the past work just as well if not better than the high-priced over the counter and prescription medications that doctors recommend. There are occasions when home remedies are not appropriate, but in most cases, natural cures are cheaper and work better.

Home Remedies For Headache:

Migraine:

In some cases, the only thing that works for a migraine is to lie down in a dark room until the pain subsides.

Applying an ice pack or applying a product such as Migraine Ice directly on the head where the pain exists sometimes helps.

A combination of Advil and excessive caffeine often helps with a migraine. There appears to be some correlation between a migraine headache and caffeine that causes caffeine to help these kinds of headaches.

Sinus Headache:

Sometimes a sinus headache will respond to other methods such as an ice pack, nap, or rest, but in most cases either a spray of saline solution or an over the counter sinus medication to dry the sinuses is necessary. Future problems can be prevented by staying away from those things that trigger the sinuses such as various allergens that cause the sinus pressure to build up. Sometimes a sinus headache can follow a cold and be the result of post-nasal drip.

Tension Headache:

In most cases, a tension head will improve when the source of the tension is removed or you have had a good nights’ sleep. Sometimes they may require a couple of analgesic capsules such as Tylenol, but that is rare for this type of headache.

Home Remedies For Bronchitis:

Citrus juice with Vitamin C provides antihistamine relief because of its ability to detoxify and metabolize histamines.

N-Acetyl L-Cysteine is effective for chronic bronchitis by reducing the number of attacks.

Semen Sinapis Alba:

Semen Sinapis Alba helps ease difficult breathing and coughing not only from bronchitis, but also for colds and phlegm retention. This herb removes any obstructions within the respiratory tract and aids in recovery.

Home remedies for earache:

Peroxide:

Place a few drops of peroxide into the ear canal before swimming to prevent swimmers’ ear.

Collodial silver:

Before using the collodial silver, you want to do a hydrogen peroxide rinse. Fill the ear canal completely with peroxide and allow it to remain in the ear until it stops bubbling. If it doesn’t stop after five minutes, drain it from the ear and replace it with fresh peroxide and repeat the procedure until it stops bubbling. Allow it to dry for fifteen minutes before adding the collodial silver. Place a few drops of collodial silver into the ear canal and leave in place about three minutes before allowing it to drain. In addition, take an oral dosage of one teaspoon four times a day on an empty stomach.

Many different home remedies exist for a variety of ailments, but the most common ones tend to be headaches, earaches, and upper respiratory infections such as bronchitis.
