Though there are a number of causes, the way of dealing with them is the same—everybody wants to get rid of them quickly and efficiently.

There are some helpful over-the-counter remedies and medications that can be of assistance in dealing with the pain that canker sores may cause.

Natural Cures for Canker Sores:

Milk of Magnesia and Benadryl:

It may sound like a rather unusual combination, but putting these two staples of the medicine cabinet together can create one powerful home remedy for canker sores.

Mix both the milk of magnesia and benadryl together and then apply to the site of the canker sores with a cotton ball, just be sure not to swallow the mixture.

Both of these medicines work to coat wet tissues such as those found in the mouth and therefore cannot only numb the site of the canker sores, but work to act as a natural cure for the symptoms such as pain that one suffers from them as well.

Hydrogen Peroxide:

Though you wouldn’t usually associate hydrogen peroxide with anything related to the mouth, it can work wonders as a home remedy for canker sores.

Mixing one part of hydrogen peroxide with five parts of water can make an excellent mouth wash.

This home remedy will not only help to clean out the mouth and thus kill off any bad bacteria, but will also help to curb the pain associated with the canker sores and ultimately allow you to get rid of them.

Stress Management:

We all know that we need to find constructive and effective ways of coping with stress in our lives and that also helps to act as a natural cure for canker sores.

Learning to find ways of dealing with stress such as meditation, deep breathing, and yoga can work wonders as a home remedy in the prevention and cure of canker sores as they appear.

Check Your Toothpaste:

If your canker sores are recurring, you might first look into the ingredients in your toothpaste. It is thought by some that an allergic reaction to sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) is a major cause of canker sore formation.

SLS is made from coconut or palm kernel oil. In toothpaste and shampoo it is used as a detergent. It's possible that using a toothpaste that does not contain SLS may stop canker sores from developing.
