Pygeum Bark Extract

Species Name: Prunus Africana

Also Known As: red stinkwood, African prune, African cherry, African prune, wontangue

Pygeum bark extract is derived from the bark only of the pygeum tree. This is a type of evergreen tree that is commonly found in tropical African countries including Kenya and Cameroon. The tree is in the rose family and grows up to 150 feet tall.

The species is actually an endangered one since these trees have been over harvested in recent history.

While the bark is an important commodity of this plant, it is also a secondary value when compared to the extremely high value of the wood, which is a hardwood.

Throughout history, though, this bark extract has proved to be an important medicine in African culture. It is now used throughout the world for its health benefits.

Home Remedies Using Pygeum Bark Extract:

Benefits of Pygeum Bark Extract:

In the 1960’s, it was discovered that this bark contained liposoluble complex. This compound has been researched heavily because of its ability to treat prostate gland enlargement. Because of this discovery, it has been used around the world as a treatment for the condition and is sold commercially in Europe.

Pygeum bark extract is used heavily today as a treatment for prostate glands but it is also an effective preventative tool for this area of the body. It is able to reduce inflammation that can lead to additional pain and other complications.

It can help to avoid problems associated with decreases in urine production and it may help to reduce other prostate conditions.

Today, many European doctors prescribe this medication to men who had disorders of the prostate. In addition to this, it is a natural tool for supporting good prostate health and is widely used in Europe for that reason.

In addition to this, there is evidence that Pygeum bark extracts can work as an effective diuretic. This means it is able to help flush excessive fluids from the cells of the body to increase urine production.

It is also able to rid the body of uric acid, which, when retained by the cells, can lead to arthritic calcification as well as gout.

Side Effects of Pygeum Bark Extract:

Pygeum bark extract is effective, but only when used properly.

It should be used only in those who do not have an allergic reaction to other evergreen products.

When taken at recommended dosages, pygeum bark is non-toxic. In rare cases, it can cause gastrointestinal problems, headache, visual disturbances and nausea in some people.
