Kidney Bean Extract

Species Name: Phaselous vulgaris

Also Known As: White kidney bean, common bean

Kidney bean extract comes from the common kidney bean. It is a native plant to Europe, the Indies and Peru. The extract comes from the seeds.

The seeds are highly nutritious and contain a high amount of sulfur. Some extracts do contain all parts of the plant, though those that are strictly from the seeds are considered a higher concentrate of benefits.

Kidney bean extracts have been used by many for healthy weight management.

Home Remedies Using Kidney Bean Extract:

Benefits of Kidney Bean Extract:

Kidney bean extract is common in traditional medicine. There have been only a few studies that focus on the white kidney bean seeds as a tool for aiding in muscle building and weight loss. In these studies, the goal is to use the product as a starch blocker, a term used to describe the ability of the extract to stop the alpha amylase enzyme.

This enzyme plays an important role in the digestion process. The alpha amylase enzyme is necessary for the metabolism of most carbohydrates. Without it, the body is unable to process starches effectively. Kidney bean extract, therefore, blocks the body’s ability to use carbohydrates that are excessively starchy, which is linked to weight gain.

Although some supplement forms promise that this is a weight loss miracle treatment, it is important to note that it can block only starchy carbohydrates. It does not block fat or help in the digestion process of simple sugars. It can help in reducing energy intake and lowering the rates of storage of body fat, but it does not stop fat from being digested.

In most cases, kidney bean extracts are sold as part of healthy foods and weight loss supplements, but purchasing the extract alone is also possible. It is best to use this as a part of a healthy weight management program.

Side Effects from Kidney Bean Extract:

There are no known negative side effects associated with the use of kidney bean extracts, but taking too much can lead to deficiency in carbohydrates, which are an important part of nutrition.

Those who are using this extract, in liquid or pill form, do need to follow the recommended dosage for doing so. This is especially true in situations where kidney bean extract is part of a large combination of ingredients for weight loss or muscle building.

Consult your doctor to determine what the proper usage levels for this product are.
