High Blood Cholesterol

There are certain conditions and ailments that are becoming far too common. One such health condition is high blood cholesterol which seems to be an all too familiar condition for too many people.

There are many contributing factors to a high blood cholesterol level that include obesity, sedentary lifestyle, genetic predisposition, improper diet, or even other health conditions.

Having a higher than normal cholesterol level can contribute to the likelihood of additional health conditions such as heart disease and it is likely to find that arteries are clogged in association.

There aren’t any real symptoms associated with an elevated cholesterol level, but it is most commonly detected by a doctor through blood work.

If you know that you have a genetic predisposition to such a health condition it may be a good idea to keep up with regular physicals each year to ensure that your cholesterol levels are in a good place.

There are some excellent medications out there to help, but there are also some very effective home remedies for high blood cholesterol. These can be used on their own or in conjunction with any treatment plan to help lower levels to a more manageable place.

Home Remedies for High Blood Cholesterol:

Niacin/Vitamin B3:

Niacin is excellent for raising your high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or “good” cholesterol levels while depleting the your low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol levels as well as triglycerides. High levels of LDL cholesterol frequently accompany high triglycerides levels, in turn increasing the risk of heart disease.

Niacin is so effective, the American Heart Association reports that niacin reduces cholesterol more effectively than certain prescription medication. I can't think of a better endorsement than that!

Omega-3 Fatty Acid:

This is one of the single best things you can do for such a health condition. Proven to be one of the most powerful home remedies for high blood cholesterol, Omega-3 fatty acid can provide a great improvement.

Taking a supplement each and every day is highly recommended, as is eating foods that are rich in this substance such as flaxseed and salmon.

This can show some dramatic improvements for an individual if taken on a regular basis.

Walnuts:

Another excellent home remedy for high blood cholesterol is walnuts.

The Omega-3 fatty acid contained within these nuts along with their natural healing power make them a very natural cure and an excellent snack. It is recommended to eat a handful of these everyday to see the best effects.

Fruits and Vegetables:

Not only are these low calorie “free” foods, but they are also loaded with nutrients and fiber.

The fiber content alone is said to be of great help in acting as a home remedy for high blood cholesterol and can have a great impact on lowering it overall.

Eating fresh and raw fruits and vegetables, particularly when combined with other necessities such as whole grains or olive oil can be a powerful way to go after the necessary levels that one should possess.
