Korean Red Ginseng Extract

Species Name: Panax ginseng

Also Known As: Red Ginseng, Asiatic ginseng, Chinese ginseng, and Oriental ginseng, Ginnsuu.

The Ginseng plant has yellow-green flowers, green leaves circling a straight stem, and red berries. The gnarled, light tan taproot has root extensions that mirror human arms and legs.

Once the plant matures to about six years old it can be used medicinally. Asian, Korean, and Chinese ginseng are the same species, just grown in different areas.

A relative of the same species, American ginseng, is native to North America.

What is Korean Red Ginseng Extract? Korean red ginseng extract is derived from heated Panax ginseng. This ginseng is left unpeeled, steamed to a temperature of a hundred degrees Celsius until it has a glossy, red-brown color.

The steaming is believed to prevent the breakdown of active ingredients and change the biochemical composition of the root. The root is then dried, often marinated in other herbs until it becomes extremely brittle.

Korean red ginseng extract is available in liquid form. It is also available in powder or capsule form. It is important to read the label of any product that you buy and verify that you are purchasing Panax ginseng that has been cultivated from roots and generally comes from Korea.
