Home Remedies using Rosehip Oil

Rosehip oil is not an ancient remedy, like most popular essential oils, but it has become in demand for a variety of good reasons.  Unlike most essential oils, rosehip may be used directly on the skin in an undiluted form. 

It is quite good for the skin, and is great to prevent damage related to sun exposure.  Rosehip has been used as both an essential oil and a base oil.

Rosehip oil can be used as a carrier oil with aromatherapy or massage oils. 

Benefits of Rosehip Oil

Rosehip oil contains high concentrations of GLA, a type of fatty acid that is found in fish oil and reduces the risk of coronary artery disease.  It also helps cells utilize worn out cells by breaking them down to base parts to be reused and disposed of. 

For that reason, rosehip oil is great for the skin, because it softens wrinkles and speeds healing of scars, burns, and stretch marks.  It also helps prevent the formation of scar tissue.

Rosehip oil is used for skin regeneration, prevention of scar formation, and post surgical adhesion's. 

It helps prevent wrinkles and sun damage to skin, and is perhaps most beneficial for burn victims and those who have had skin grafts, in order to form a bond between the grafted epidermal tissue and the natural epidermis.

  • Rosehip oil has extraordinary healing abilities, making it a wonderful asset to anyone who could form scar tissue.  It is good used neat for facials or treatments for post-surgical or wound scarring.  It can be easily mixed with a carrier for massage therapy.
  • Rosehip oil is great to aid in collagen formation, preventing wrinkles and early aging.  It is included in most skin care moisturizers, and can be added to cream or lotion bases or skin care products.

Side Effects of Rosehip Oil

Use caution when incorporating rose hip oil into your skin care regime if you have acne.  There have been some cases of exacerbation of skin conditions when rosehip oil is added to the skin care regime. 

A skin patch test can be performed prior to the initial therapy, and any concerns you might have may be addressed by a medical care professional or herbologist.
