Species name: There are over 100 species which come in a variety of colors.

Also known as: Rose essential oil is extracted from the damask rose - Rosa damascena of the Rosaceae family and is also known as Bulgarian and Turkish rose, otto of rose, and attar of rose.

Rose otto, the most well known type of rose oil, is steam distilled from fresh rose petals.  Approximately sixty thousand roses are used for every liter of Rose otto.

Home Remedies using Rose Essential Oil:

Essential oil of rose does not sell as well as lavender essential oil, but most of that is due to the prohibitive cost.  In spite of the high cost, it is a great oil to use for a variety of reasons. 

It is great combating depression, maintains a healthy heart and digestive system.  It is also for the skin and problems associated with menstruation, premenstrual syndrome, and menopause.

Benefits of Rose Essential Oil:

Rose oil helps improve heart problems, and any problems associated with circulation.  It is great for fighting hypertension, and increases liver function and gall bladder health.

Use rose oil for respiratory, circulatory, cardiac, and digestive system concerns.  It is beneficial for all types of feminine problems associated with menstruation, and is very beneficial for the skin.  Rose water can even be used to treat pink eye.

Aromatherapy incorporates rose oil into use in diffusers, simmer pots, and steam therapy.

Blended with other essential oils or carriers, rose oil makes great massage oil.  It may also be diluted in bath water for soak therapy.

Rose oil may also be incorporated into cream or lotion bases.

Side Effects of Rose Essential Oil:

Rose essential oil is not considered toxic, it is not an irritant, and is not sensitizing, but use should be avoided during pregnancy.
