It is essential for carbohydrate metabolism and neural functions.

Home Remedies using Vitamin B1:

Benefits and Uses of Vitamin B1:

Vitamin B1 helps fuel your body because it converts blood sugar into energy. It keeps mucous membranes healthy and is necessary for nervous system, muscular and cardiovascular function.

It assists in the production of hydrochloric acid, blood formation, and carbohydrate metabolism. Vitamin B1 also enhances circulation.

Vitamin B1 is used by the body to break down sugars in the diet. It also helps correct nerve and heart problems that occur when the body is deficient of the B1 vitamin.

Vitamin B1 comes in the following over the counter forms:

  • Tablet in both regular and time released formulas
  • Capsule in both regular and time released formulas
  • Powder
  • Sublingual
  • Lozenge
  • Liquid

Vitamin B1 can also be injected into the veins by a medical professional when necessary.

Vitamin B1 can be found in many foods, including:

  • Dried beans
  • Brown rice
  • Egg yolks
  • Fish
  • Organ meats such as liver
  • Peanuts
  • Peas
  • Pork
  • Chicken

Side Effects of Vitamin B1:

Vitamin B1 is non-toxic at dietary and supplemental levels. However dermatitis or more hypersensitivity reactions occur rarely. Large doses may cause drowsiness or muscle relaxation.

(Note: Taking any one of the B vitamins alone for long periods of time can result in an imbalance of other B vitamins, for this reason it is best to take a B vitamin complex formula rather than a single B vitamin supplement alone.)
