Coenzyme Q10/ Co Q10

Other Names:  Ubiquinone, ubidecarenone, CoQ10.

Coenzyme Q10 ( CoQ10) is a vitamin-like substance found naturally in all human cells.

It is the element responsible for the body’s production of its own energy.

It assists the process of conversion by mitochondria of food energy into usable energy, with almost 95 percent of all energy requirements converted with the aid of CoQ10.

The highest concentrations of the element are found in the heart, lungs, and liver, where the most energy is required for functionality.

Sources of Coenzyme Q10: CoQ10 is found in the inner membrane of the mitochondrion (as well as several other cellular membranes within the body).

It is an essential part of the electron transport chain and in the formation of apoptosome and other adapter proteins.

Home Remedies using Coenzyme Q10:

Benefits and Uses of Coenzyme Q10:

In its reduced form (ubiquinol), Coenzyme Q10 is an important antioxidant in lipid and mitochondria membranes, protecting cells against the effects of free radicals.

It is essential in regenerating vitamin E, and ubiquinol also minimizes the affects and injuries caused to DNA by oxidation.

Coenzyme Q10 is integrated into the respiratory chain and are located in the mitochondria as an important means of defense, since this is exactly where free radicals are produced.

Coenzyme Q10 is used in treatment of rare and serious disorders of the mitochondria and metabolism in cases that patients, due to complications from the disorder, cannot produce adequate supply of their own CoQ10.

It is also sold as a dietary supplement or vitamin for the sick and elderly, who often cannot produce enough of their own.

The element as a supplement has been shown to be a benefit to the relief of migraine headaches and has also been studied as a reliever of side effects caused by cancer treatments.

CoQ10 may be helpful in the prevention of neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinsons, as well.

Side Effects of Coenzyme Q10:

Because of the biosynthesis process to create COQ10, treatment for high cholesterol or high blood pressure may inhibit the production of the enzyme by up to 40 percent.

No seriously negative effects of this have so far been determined.
