Sclerosis

What is Sclerosis? Sclerosis is sometimes spelled sclerosus when naming specific disorders.

This condition can pertain to the stiffening of a body’s structure that is usually caused by a replacement of the normal organ-specific tissue with connective or scar tissue.

It can be a hardening of the nervous system or blood vessels that is generally caused by inflammation and disease.

There are over fourteen different types of 'sclerosis' diseases and symptoms vary widely depending on the severity, underlying cause of the disease, and where the body is affected with this condition. Home remedies also vary for each type of Sclerosis.

Natural Remedies for Sclerosis:

Multiple Sclerosis:

One of the most familiar Sclerosis diseases is Multiple Sclerosis. The immune system in a person with MS is attacking the protective coating surrounding the nerve cells.

Eating a healthy and balanced diet will help Multiple Sclerosis patients keep their immune system strong. Other natural treatments for those who suffer from Multiple Sclerosis include:

Get Plenty of Rest:

Getting plenty of rest is so important. Multiple sclerosis causes you to feel tired without relation to any activity level. Taking several rest periods throughout the day will help combat this fatigue.

Regular Exercise:

Some type of aerobic exercise may help those with mild to moderate MS by helping to improve strength and muscle tone. Sufferers may also see increased balance, coordination, and a lessening of depression. If you are bothered by heat, swimming might be a good exercise option.

Reduce Body Temperature:

Reduce body temperature. MS symptoms often get worse when the body’s temperature rises. Use cool baths to reduce core temperatures. This is especially helpful if you can submerge your upper torso.

Lower Stress Levels:

Stress can be a major trigger for MS signs and symptoms. Make sure you pay attention to stress levels and learn several natural ways to combat this stress. There are options like Yoga, deep breathing exercises, massage, meditation, or tai chi.

Vitamin D:

There have been several studies linking sunshine or vitamin D to Multiple Sclerosis. For one thing it has been shown that the farther away from the equator a person lives, the higher the risk they have of contracting MS.

Since sunlight is the body's most efficient source of vitamin D — exposure to sunlight or taking the supplement is a suggested remedy.

For those who don’t have MS, it is suggested that Vitamin D may lower the risk of developing the disease. For those who already have MS it is believed that vitamin D may reduce the frequency and severity of their symptoms.

Atherosclerosis:

Atherosclerosis is the buildup of fats both in and on the blood artery walls. This can restrict blood flow or build up of the fats or plaque can burst and cause a blood clot. Natural or home remedies for treatment of this disease include:

  • Stop smoking
  • Healthy and balanced diet
  • Regular exercise
  • Lose weight
  • Manage stress

Natural supplements that can be taken include:

  • Blond psyllium like what is in Metamucil
  • Calcium
  • Cocoa
  • Cod liver oil
  • Coenzyme Q10
  • Garlic
