Nausea

Nausea is the condition that makes one feel queasy or unsettled. Nausea can be short-lived, or in some cases it can be a constant ailment that only subsides for short periods at a time.

Whatever the cause of your nausea, there are many options to treat it from over the counter medications like Gravol to a long list of natural cures and home remedies.

If your nausea is accompanied by more severe symptoms like prolonged vomiting (more than 3 days), fever above 101f, stiff neck, loss of consciousness or rapid breathing then medical attention should be sought immediately.

For common cases, there are many choices of natural cures that can help to ease the discomforts of nausea.

Causes of Nausea:

Nausea can be caused by pain, medications, motion or illness. Here is a list of some commonly identified causes of nausea:

  • Inner ear infection
  • Medications
  • Food Poisoning
  • Treatments such as chemotherapy
  • Travel sickness
  • Pregnancy
  • Diseases such as HIV and diabetes
  • Flu

Natural Cures for Nausea:

When nausea strikes, it is best to know a fool-proof home remedy that will reduce your suffering. Here are some time-tested methods that have been effectively used as a natural cure to nausea.

Ginger:

Ginger in any form relieves nausea, however this home remedy is most commonly taken in tea form.

Simply drink one cup whenever you feel nauseated.

Avoid food:

This natural cure for nausea is in the form of avoidance. Foods can often trigger nausea attacks so it is best to avoid foods and only drink liquids.

If you must have something, stick to bland foods like bread or crackers.

Lemon Water:

Cool water with the juice of half of a lemon in it will instantly soothe the stomach and make you feel more settled.

Do not add sugar to this or else it can have the opposite effect.

Sleep:

The best thing one can do is to close their eyes and sleep off a bout of nausea.

Sea Bands:

Purchase a sea band bracelet, or simply put gentle pressure on the inside of your wrist for relief from nausea symptoms.

Mint:

Use fresh mint leaves and either smell them or crush them and add to a cup of hot water for a soothing drink.

Cold Cloth:

Put a cold cloth on your forehead for 5 minutes and close your eyes.

Then re-soak the cloth with cold water and place it on the back of your neck for another 5 minutes.

Keep repeating this until the queasy feeling has subsided.

Dry Toast:

If you feel like you need to settle your stomach, then dry toast will make you feel settled in an instant.
