Incontinence

Incontinence refers to any involuntary leakage of urine, and is a distressing problem that affects many people worldwide.

Thankfully, the underlying cause behind incontinence is always identifiable and treatable.

There are several forms of incontinence, and these include stress incontinence, urge incontinence, functional incontinence, and overflow incontinence.

Stress incontinence refers to a condition in which the pelvic floor muscles are insufficiently strong to hold urine in properly, and strong actions such as coughing, sneezing, laughing, or exercising are enough to cause urine to leak from the bladder.

Urge incontinence is the sudden urge to urinate accompanied by the involuntary loss of urine. The main cause of urge incontinence is involuntary movements of the muscles that control the exit of urine from the bladder.

Functional incontinence is simply the loss of urine due to the inability to reach the bathroom in time. This may be due to a variety of factors.

Age, mobility, dementia, and simple inconvenience are all causes of functional incontinence.

A person with dementia, for example, might not have the presence of mind to plan a trip to the toilet in time.

A wheelchair-bound person might not be able to reach an accessible toilet in time.

Someone who is in the car, on the highway, and between rest stops and is unable to hold their urine any longer can also be considered to experience functional incontinence.

Natural Cures for Incontinence:

Protective Products:

A great many products are available on the market today to help people deal with incontinence.

These include diapers, inserts, liners, and linen protectors that all help to protect your bedding and clothing from urine.

These medical products are easily available at most pharmacies or health stores.

Portable Urinals:

Portable devices that are designed to collect urine from both males and females are available.

These are the best solution for those who regularly find themselves unable to reach a bathroom before the urge to urinate becomes overwhelming.

Strengthening Exercises:

You can help treat stress incontinence by doing certain strengthening exercises that will strengthen the pelvic muscles.

This will help in making you better able to control your bladder when you feel the urge to urinate.

Lose Excess Weight:

Oftentimes, excess weight in the abdominal area puts added pressure on the bladder, making it even more difficult to hold in your urine.

If you are overweight or have excess weight around the abdominal area, alter your diet and lifestyle so you lose that excess weight.
