Home Health Remedies

While many people have come to depend overmuch on modern medicine to keep themselves healthy, modern medicine is really more about treating symptoms than preventative in nature.

Home health remedies, on the other hand, are focused on making your body healthy and keeping it that way, instead of simply treating symptoms after you fall sick.

While many health remedies involve natural supplements and other compounds that need to be purchased, there are also many health remedies that can be concocted using items commonly found in homes and kitchens everywhere.

Home Health Remedies using Natural Cures:

The following are some home health remedies to get rid of common conditions that people face on an everyday basis using ingredients that can be easily found in your kitchen cupboard or refrigerator.

Home Health Remedies for Puffy Eyes:

Teabags make a great treatment for those puffy eyes after a sleepless night. That’s because tea leaves contain natural compounds known as tannins, which have astringent properties.

This means that they help to shrink and contract swollen tissues.

Simply brew up a cup of tea, wait for it to cool, then take the teabag out and place it over your eyes to lessen the puffiness and provide relief for your eyes.

Home Health Remedies for Sore Throats:

A mixture of honey and water is one of the best home remedies for a sore throat, as it coats the throat and provides soothing relief from the pain.

This is a temporary solution, however, and needs to be repeated in order to provide continuous relief. Otherwise, the honey soon washes away down your throat and itchy and scratchy sensations start anew.

Home Health Remedies for Asthma:

For people who suffer from chronic asthma attacks, eating onions and drinking coffee may help to lessen the frequency of attacks.

Caffeine is known to have bronchodilating effects, meaning that it opens up the air passages. During an asthma attack, the air passages constrict, making it difficult to breathe.

Caffeine helps to prevent the narrowing of the air passages, thus helping to prevent asthma attacks.

Onions have the same effect, and while raw onions tend to be too strong to consume in any great amount, people suffering from asthma should consider using more onions in their cooking.

Home Health Remedies for Insect Bites and Stings:

Vinegar is the age-old reliable home health remedy for insect bites and stings.

Simply pour the vinegar over the affected area or mix vinegar with baking soda to obtain a paste that can applied to the affected area.

The vinegar acts to neutralize the chemicals that cause pain and irritation in insect bites and stings, providing relief.
