Hemorrhoid

Hemorrhoids refers to the condition in which the veins in the rectum and anus become swollen and inflamed.

The most common cause of hemorrhoids is excessive straining of the bowels that can occur when a person experiences constipation or diarrhea.

Another common cause of hemorrhoids among women is constipation caused by water retention experienced during periods of premenstrual syndrome or menstruation.

Other causes of hemorrhoids include obesity, as the extra body weight places greater pressure on the rectal veins; pregnancy often leads to high blood pressure and increased strain on bowel movements, making it another possible cause of hemorrhoids; cigarettes and alcohol lead to increased blood pressure, thus contributing to the development of hemorrhoids as well.

Hemorrhoids are not usually dangerous or life-threatening, and the symptoms of hemorrhoids usually disappear on their own after a few days.

The most significant and common symptom of having a hemorrhoid is bright red blood that covers the feces or appears on toilet paper.

Other symptoms may include irritation, itching, and abscesses.

Another, rarer form of hemorrhoids, known as external hemorrhoids, occurs when a typical hemorrhoid protrudes outside of the body.

The hemorrhoid then becomes irritated and painful, causing severe discomfort.

Natural Cures for a Hemorrhoid:

Aloe Vera:

Aloe Vera gel, applied directly to the anus, will relieve the pain and irritation, providing relief from the symptoms of hemorrhoids.

Witch Hazel:

For external hemorrhoids, witch hazel works wonders relieving pain and reducing the swelling of the veins.

Simply dab witch hazel on the external hemorrhoid using a cotton ball, and it will help to contract and shrink the veins, thus helping to heal the hemorrhoid.

High Fiber Foods:

One of the primary causes of hemorrhoids can be hard stools that exert greater pressure on the veins of the rectum during bowel movements.

In order to avoid having hard stools, you should rely on a diet that consists of high fiber foods to ensure that your stools are soft and bulky, and thus easy to move.

Foods high in fiber include fruits, vegetables, and cereals.

Topical Ointments and Creams:

Various creams and ointments are available for those suffering from hemorrhoids, and even creams used for babies suffering from ‘diaper rash’ can be used to provide soothing relief from hemorrhoids.

Lubricating creams can also be used to lubricate the anal passage before passing of stools, making it easier for stools to exit the body.

This can help to alleviate the pain that is otherwise caused by a hard or difficult stool.
