HalitosisHalitosis, or bad breath is caused by poor oral hygiene. The mouth is THE dirtiest part of the body when it comes to the variety of microorganisms found in it. Even healthy people have bacteria inside their mouths. The population of bacteria is delicately balanced by our body's normal immune response and the internal oral environment. For people with halitosis, this delicate balance is disrupted by the neglect of oral hygiene. Food particles in the crevices between teeth and at the back of the throat provide bacteria enough nutrition to multiply and colonize these areas. These bacteria and the by-products of their metabolism, not to mention the decaying food particles left inside the mouth contribute to the foul-smelling odor characteristic of halitosis. Although halitosis is not a serious disease, it may obviously affect your social life and social standing. But don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to get rid of halitosis and there are home remedies and natural cures available that can easily do the job. Natural Cures for Halitosis:Brush Your Tongue:Many people don't realize that their tongue needs to be scraped. It harbors many bacteria that are busy producing odors. Brushing your teeth and tongue three times a day after meals gets rid of left over food particles in the mouth and cleans the teeth tongue so that bacteria won't easily grow and create plaque. This home remedy is very obvious and highly effective. Gargle:There are several over-the-counter mouth wash solutions available in the market today and most of them are effective in cleansing the mouth of unwanted bacteria. Use the provided measuring cap and pour half a cap of the solution then swish it inside the mouth for at least a minute before gargling it as far down the throat as possible before spitting it out. Do this three times a day after brushing. Guava:Guava Leaf is a natural cure for halitosis. Guava leaves have long been used as an antiseptic. Boil 1 cup of guava leaves in 3 cups water for 10-15 minutes. Cool the resulting decoction and use as a mouthwash. Yerba Buena:Yerba buena is an herb that belongs to the mint family and has long been used in traditional medicine for its analgesic effects. It is also an ingredient in many over-the-counter mouth wash preparations and even breath fresheners. If you happen to have this herb in your garden, there is no need to spend money on those mouth wash preparations because you can make one yourself. This home remedy is one of the easiest to make. Just get a few leaves and soak it in a glass of water for 30-45 minutes before using it as a regular mouth wash. |
