Hair Growth

Hair growth starts inside the womb, and in healthy conditions, it does not stop growing until death.

The rate at which your hair grows is greatly influenced by the duration of the different phases including the hair growth cycle, which in turn, depends on the type and localization of the hair follicle involved.

The hair on your scalp grows around 1 cm per month or approximately 6 inches a year, whereas, the hair on your legs takes longer to achieve the same growth length. With advancing age, growth of scalp hair slows down to 0.25 cm a month.

The hair grows through the process of cell division. Hair growth cycle includes three phases: catagen, telogen, and anagen.

Hair growth stops during the catagen phase because protein and pigment production are inhibited at this phase.

Telogen is known as the resting phase. Scalp hair stays in this phase for 100 days, while hairs on the arms and legs may remain in this phase for a longer period of time.

The hair actively grows during the anagen phase. The cells in the hair root are actively dividing, pushing the older hair cells forward to form the new hair cells. The scalp hair remains in this phase for two to six years, whereas, the hair on legs remains in this phase for 19 to 26 weeks.

Natural Cures for Hair Growth:

Trim your Hair:

Cutting or trimming your hair can stimulate hair growth. Getting occasional 0.5-inch trims result in steadier hair growth.

Medium length hair needs to be trimmed every 8 weeks, while long length hair must be trimmed every 10 weeks.

If you are trimming your hair, make sure that you use a sharp pair of hair trimming scissors. Dull scissors can cause more splint ends.

Egg Yolk:

Massaging your scalp with egg yolks is the simplest home remedy for hair growth.

Apply raw egg yolks throughout your scalp, and begin scalp massage in a circular motion.

Leave it for an hour, and rinse well.

Egg yolks not only moisturize your hair, but they also keep your hair strong.

Mustard Oil and Henna Leaf:

Regular application of mustard oil - henna leaf mixture on the scalp is one of the oldest home remedies for hair growth.

Boil a cup of mustard oil with four tablespoons of henna leaf to keep your hair stronger and less vulnerable to damage.

Castor Oil and Coconut Oil:

Mixing castor oil with coconut oil and applying the mixture to the scalp is an effective home remedy for increased hair growth.

Leave the mixture for an hour, and thoroughly wash it off using a good shampoo.
