Dry ScalpDry scalps are a common problem for people living in extreme weather conditions. Moving in and out of changing climates contributes to development of dry scalps. A dry scalp is characterized by tightness, itchiness and flakiness of the scalp. It should not be confused with dandruff, because its flakes are dead skin of the scalp. Aside from extreme weather changes, fatty acid deficiency can result to serious form of dry scalp. Other factors such as stress, dehydration, dieting and alcohol containing hair products such as gels and sprays can cause dry scalp. However, the most common cause of dry scalp is harsh shampoos with detergents and other chemical ingredients. Fortunately all of these are manageable by home remedies. Natural Cures for Dry Scalps:Scalp Care:Most people have the misconception that in order to get rid of dry scalp you need to frequently wash their hair. This is wrong. Sometimes, natural cures are more appropriate for this kind of scalp condition. Frequent usage of shampoos can just add to the accumulation of chemicals in your scalp while the actions of natural cures are to remove these accumulations so the scalp’s natural oil can readily be secreted. Avocado:An interesting home remedy using a natural cure is the application of avocado on the scalp and hair. Avocado is rich in natural oils that can be used as a topical agent in the hair. Jojoba Oil:A dry scalp can be very receptive to jojoba oil as an oil substitute, as it closely mimics human’s natural sebum. Southernwood:If you want to create your own effective natural cure for dry hair, mix 5 tablespoons of southern wood tonic to 5 tablespoons of mild eau de cologne into a bottle. For 1 tablespoon of tonic mixture, dilute it with equally the same amount of warm water. Massage this diluted mixture onto scalp twice a week. Hot Oil Treatments:Another simple home remedy is the use of hot oil treatments. You can either go to salons or do this in the privacy of your home. There are many easy to use hot oil treatment products that are out in the market. Yogurt:As an advocate of natural cures, you can substitute yogurt for hot oil as a home remedy for dry hair. Do this by applying yogurt in the wet scalp and hair and then leave it for 10 minutes. Rinse hair and scalp thoroughly with water. Yogurt does not leave any scent on hair; therefore you can do away with shampooing for one day. If you do enjoy the fresh shampoo scent, you can use a small amount of mildly fragrant conditioner to add that fresh clean scent. |
