Dry Hair

Healthy hair can easily enhance a person’s look, and boost one’s confidence.

Damaged hair such as dry hair, can easily do the opposite. Give it time and TLC- tender, loving care.

Dry hairs lack moisture and natural oil that maintain the hair’s smooth texture and shine. The normal moisture content of hair is about 10%. Falling below this predisposes it to dry hair.

The key is not only to regain back the lost moisture, but also to make sure that the hair is exposed to TLC at all times.

Hair becomes dry because it is exposed to harsh chemicals found in most hair care products, such as shampoos, gels, wax, dyes and conditioners.

However, the most common cause of dry hair is excessive shampooing. Shampoo strips off hair’s natural oils every wash, and using them excessively without replacing the lost oil is truly cruel to the hair.

Other possible causes are excessive exposure to heat from blow dryer or the sun’s UV rays and to chlorine in swimming pools.

Natural Cures for Dry Hair:

Good Hair Care:

Home remedies to get rid of dry hair aims to correct wrong habits and replace them with good hair care, such as less frequent washing of the hair using a shampoo.

  • Shampoos should be used around 2-3 times a week. Use conditioners more often.
  • Another home remedy for dry hair is to avoid daily blow drying. If you just want to dry your hair after a bath, you can use an electric fan instead.
  • If you are prone to dry hair, one good home remedy is to choose a wash-and-wear haircut and style, which is also practical.
  • For those who love to swim, sacrificing your love for swimming is not the answer for dry hair. Use a rubber cap while swimming or you can apply olive oil to your hair before putting on the rubber swimming cap.
  • You will also help your hair by pacing hair treatments enough to let the hair breathe and be free from chemicals.

Natural Hot Oil Treatments:

Natural cures have their own version of a hot oil treatment - take coconut milk and 2 tablespoons of flour then massaged on scalp.

Leave it for 5 minutes, and then rinse.

Natural Hair Cnditioners:

You can also create your own conditioner, a good natural cure.

A mixture of castor oil, glycerin, cider vinegar can be added to a tablespoon of herbal shampoo.

Massage on scalp.

Leave it for 20 minutes, and then rinse hair.

Other natural cures you can use are aloe vera as a conditioner and 2 drops of safflower oil as a hot oil treatment.
