Alcohol Dependency

Alcohol dependency is an addiction and chemical dependence on alcohol. An alcoholic is someone who continues to use alcohol despite negative consequences.

Because alcohol is toxic to the human mind and body, this dependency can have disastrous affects on a person’s health and life.

Someone who is trying to kick their alcohol habit needs to keep their brain, body, and mouth occupied as much as possible. The more you do, the less you’ll think about drinking.

Try working out, drinking more water, and maybe take up a new hobby. These things are helpful with fighting any addiction.

Home Remedies for Alcohol Dependency:

Quassia Chips:

Quassia is a South American shrub or small tree that has bright scarlet flowers and a fine-grained yellowish colored wood.

This wood and bark yields the bitter drug quassia, which can be found in health food or holistic shops in the form of chips or shavings. Take the Quassia home, steep it in water and drink a couple of swallows every few hours.

This helps to destroy the taste for alcohol. These chips typically have no smell but if you chew the wood or drink the liquid it will have an intensely bitter taste. (This will help you know you have the pure Quassia, instead of something being passed off as the natural substance.)

Herbal Remedies:

There are several traditional herbal remedies that can effectively destroy someone’s taste and craving for alcohol. Or help in riding the person of the need for alcohol. They include:

  • Combining one lovage root with two laurel leaves in approximately eight ounces of vodka. Allow the mixture to set in a dark room for 14 days before drinking a little of it at a time. This may cause nausea and vomiting.
  • Wild Thyme extract mixed with alcohol also causes severe nausea and induces vomiting.

Herbs used to treat alcoholism include:

  • American valerian combined with lobelia or skullcap
  • Magnolia bark
  • Kudzu (a vine used in traditional Chinese medicine)

Bitter Melon or Bitter Gourd:

Available in most Asian and Indian groceries, Bitter Melon is used to increase liver function and provide some relief for the physical cravings of alcohol dependency.

To prepare: finely grate a bitter gourd until you have about three teaspoons of its juice. Mix the juice with one glass of buttermilk and consume this mixture every morning for roughly one month.

Celery:

Celery can act as an antidote to alcohol. To prepare: extract about one half cup of juice from raw celery. Dilute the juice by adding one half cup of water. Consume each day for at least one month to obtain desirable effects.
