Killing Roaches

It is said that roaches could survive a nuclear blast.

Most people don’t know that roaches love high places. They may come out to eat, but their nest will be the most high place they can find.

Boric acid, “tap dancing” traps, sprays, motels...there is a way to kill roaches, and rid yourself them forever without using poisons that are toxic to you and the environment.

Home Remedies For Killing Roaches:

Boric Acid:

If you put boric acid on top of your kitchen cabinets rather than inside them, they will carry the boric acid into their nests, killing all of them.

It has been recommended that boric acid works better when it is mixed with sugar, because the sugar acts as bait, the roaches come and eat, then carry back the boric acid on their bodies, in their excrement, and roaches, being omnivorous, will eat the dead, and the excrement, and die.

Boric acid is toxic by mouth, so keep it away from children and pets.

Catnip:

Catnip is a natural repellant to roaches. The active ingredient in catnip is nepetalactone, which is non-toxic to humans and pets.

Catnip can be left in the nesting areas and places you see them, and it can be simmered in water to make a concentrated “tea” to use as a spray for the places you cannot easily see. This remedy should not be used in households who have cats.

Soapy Water:

Spraying roaches directly with soapy water will kill them. You don't need a lot of soap, just enough to break up the waters surface tension (the same amount as if you were washing dishes by hand).

Keep spray bottles of soapy water on hand to spray them. Use the steady stream setting rather than the spray mist and make sure to wet the roaches head and lower body.

Because they breathe through the shell, filling the pores with water will suffocate them. Get rid of them quickly in case you haven't used enough water and some of them revive. It's not a long term solution unless you keep vigilant and are able to spray all of them.

Bay Leaves:

Roaches are repelled by bay leaves. Break them up, and scatter them in your cabinets, and places you see the roaches. If you steep bay leaves in water, making a bay leaf tea, and pour it in a spray bottle, add soap, you not only kill the roaches, you repel the others at the same time.

Listerine:

Listerine burns my mouth and roaches don't like it either. Use a mix of 50/50 Listerine and water along with a drop or two of liquid dish washing liquid (for the same reason mentioned in the soapy water home remedy).

Put it in the spray bottle and set the nozzle on the steady stream setting- Misting wont work, you need a steady stream. Blast the roach with the steady stream of Listerine, water and soap mixture. Problem solved.

Feed Bait:

There is also a very promising product on the market to kill roaches. Feed Bait, which uses a combination of food and a pheromone attractant, which lure roaches up to a meter away to come and dine.

In combination with the food and pheromone bait, diatomaceous soil is the third component of Feed Bait. This mineral soil kills roaches in two ways. It absorbs the waxy outer cuticle layer of the roaches, and abrades it, allowing their metabolic sap to leak out, causing the roaches to dehydrate and die. The important part is these roaches do not die immediately. They go back to their nests, when they die, they are eaten by other roaches that then die. It is totally non toxic to humans or pets.
