Influenza

A virus that infects your respiratory system, including your upper respiratory system, is influenza, or the flu. What we call “stomach flu” or “intestinal Flu” is not actually influenza at all. The season for influenza begins in January and does not end until March.

With symptoms similar to a common cold, but much, much stronger and of longer duration, influenza is a serious illness because, especially in the very old, the very young, and those with compromised immune systems, influenza can cause serious lung problems such as viral pneumonia. There are injections and nasal sprays that contain small strains of influenza, which, when taken, may not always prevent the flu, but should lessen the severity, even if you do get influenza.

Home Remedies For Influenza:

Fluids And Rest:

Common sense approaches to treat influenza are getting plenty of rest, drinking extra fluids, using over the counter remedies, washing your hands very often, and eating soups and broths to ease the uncomfortable symptoms of influenza.

Colloidal Silver:

Adults can take a teaspoon of colloidal silver, and children can take ½ teaspoon, to alleviate the symptoms of influenza. Colloidal silver shortens the duration and severity of influenza, and, if taken regularly, you may never even get the flu. Recent studies have shown that colloidal silver is a powerful tool in managing illnesses like influenza.

Hydrogen Peroxide:

At the first sign of influenza, except if you have a ruptured ear drum, put a few drops of 3% hydrogen peroxide into each ear, one at time, keeping it in the ears approximately 10 minutes, or until it stops bubbling. It is said that your temperature should start dropping within minutes, and the flu should be gone within 12 to 14 hours.

Oil Of Oregano:

Diffused oil of oregano will either keep influenza away completely, or at least decrease the length of time and the severity of it. To diffuse oregano essential oil, put some water into an aromatherapy diffuser, add five drops of the oil, and light a candle underneath it. When you can see mist rising keep the mixture burning for at least another twenty minutes.

Echinacea:

Echinacea is a traditional favorite for influenza. It is believed that Echinacea stimulates your own immune system, so that it can rid your body of the influenza virus. Double blind studies (studies where neither the people administering the Echinacea, nor the people taking it, knew what they were taking or why they were taking it) have shown that Echinacea does clear influenza symptoms more rapidly than those who were not given the Echinacea. At the first sign of influenza, steep Three hundred mg of dried Echinacea root powder in water (sweeten with honey, if you wish) and drink, or take three to five ml of Echinacea tincture three times a day.

Vitamin D:

WebMD reports that Vitamin D may reduce the incidence and severity of influenza and other infections of the upper respiratory tract.

Vitamin D is created naturally in your body upon exposure to sunlight, and is also available as a supplement.
