Cold

At some point throughout the year, almost all of us are afflicted with the common cold. This can range in symptoms and severity, but can most definitely cause some temporary suffering as you let it run its course.

We are all too familiar with the typical headache, sore throat, stuffy and runny nose, sneezing, coughing, and body aches that come along with a cold. It can be just miserable as you suffer through it, and the scary part is that you can catch it from anywhere.

As this common virus is highly contagious, you usually have to wait it out until it gets out of your system.

Since a cold is a very common and viral infection, there isn’t much you can do in the way of curing it. You can take any number of over-the-counter medications, and unless the symptoms get too uncontrollable you can avoid seeking out medical attention.

Most of the time people turn to all of the various medications out there, though the reality is that they usually only mask the symptoms.

They may provide some temporary relief, but it can be much more desirable to turn to home remedies for a cold.

These can help in the way of getting rid of a cold and can even provide some excellent steps towards preventing a cold from occurring.

It’s worth looking into these natural cures to see just how effective they can be for you and your family.

Home Remedies for a Cold:

Vitamin D:

A study shows that proper levels of Vitamin D are a powerful immune enhancer and might ward off colds and flu. Participant that had the highest levels of Vitamin D were less likely to get sick. However if they did develop a cold, the duration of the illness was significantly less than those that had lower levels of this powerful vitamin.

Garlic Supplement:

If you were never a fan of garlic, it’s time to start liking it now. Amongst other medicinal properties, garlic has an antiseptic power.

This means that it can help to clean out this virus or help you if you have even been exposed. Therefore eating garlic, or better yet turning to supplements as a home remedy for a cold can be quite beneficial and effective.

Though it can be helpful to take a garlic supplement and eat some everyday, consumption should be bumped up if an individual feels the onset of symptoms or has been exposed.

Ginger Herbal Supplement:

It’s no surprise to see ginger show up as a home remedy for a cold, as it has such extensive healing powers.

Ginger in any form whether it be as a tea, as a spice, or in raw form can provide excellent healing powers and help to cure the cold in the system.

To be sure that you get proper levels, it can be a good idea to take a ginger supplement to really go to work on the cold and minimize the duration and intensity of it.

Vitamin C Supplement:

We’ve all heard this before, but Vitamin C can be an excellent home remedy for a cold. Though it should be taken as a supplement each day, consumption should be bumped up quite significantly if a cold sets in.

It can help to prevent a cold but can also help to lessen the intensity of the symptoms.

Eating foods rich in Vitamin C such as citrus can help, but a supplement can help to achieve proper levels.
