Acne Treatment

Acne is something which most people must deal with at least once in their life. Most deal with acne on a recurring basis. It is not uncommon to see someone with acne issues in their teen years, in their twenties, and all the way through their life.

Although acne isn’t something to be considered “life threatening”, it can have an emotional impact on those suffering and can cause scarring on the skin.

Acne may be caused by bacterial infection. Hormones during times of ovulation, menstruation, and childbirth in women have also been shown to cause these blemishes.

Other common causes are stress, anxiety, and different environmental factors.

When you see acne, it is actually a chronic inflammation of the sebaceous glands and hair follicles. The sebaceous glands produce a substance called sebum, which stops skin from getting too dry.

When a piece of dead skin finds its way into the sebum and the two combine it may create a comedo, which is what is known as acne.

There are various types of acne that you will see on the skin: blackheads and whiteheads are the most common. A closed comedo is a whitehead, while an open comedo is a blackhead.

These forms of acne can appear on the face, neck, back, arms and even the chest.
