Horny goat weed grows wild in the mountain areas and is a native to Southern Europe along with Southern, Eastern and Central Asia.

Everyone will agree that that the name of this herb is quite an attention getter and might even entice you to smile a little.

The way this herb got its name is rather an interesting story. History states that a Chinese goat herder is the one who came up with the name “horny goat weed”. Apparently, he noticed that after the goats in his herd ate this herb they became sexually active and this is where the name was born.

What is Horny Goat Weed: Honey goat weed belongs to the family “Berberidaceae”. It is a recurring plant that has flowers with four petals. These flowers appear on the plant in the spring and summer months.

The Chinese have been using this herb to enhance sexual activity for many years.

It is a very leafy herb that contains “flavonoids” “Magnaflorine” and “Sterols”. These are the ingredients that are believed to enhance the neurotransmitters that trigger the sex drives. Therefore, the leaves are the part that is used to make the herbal remedy.
