Grapefruit Seed

Species Name: Citrus Paradisi.

Also known as: Shaddock, Thompson grapefruit, Ruby Red, Marsh grapefruit, Grapefruit, Webb grapefruit.

All the parts of the grapefruit are used for herbal purposes. History states that the grapefruit was first named the “forbidden fruit” of Barbados then later changed.

The species name and the original name given to this fruit suggest that at some point it was believed that this tree grew in “paradise”.

What is Grapefruit Seed: The grapefruit seed is taken from a sub tropical citrus tree. Florida is known as the heart of the grapefruit country as this tree grows abundantly there.

It is believed to be a native of Jamaica and can grow as tall as thirty feet in height. The tree from which the grapefruit seed is taken is a hybrid and the fruit is rather large, round in shape and yellow in color. The inside is a light yellow or a bright pink color and is said to be like a soft tissue substance.

The juice from the grapefruit is enjoyed by many and has been throughout history. It recieved its English name because the fruit grows in cluster much like grapes do although, the grapefruit is much larger.

This fruit contains a lot of vitamins and minerals that include potassium, iron, vitamin C and calcium, which makes it a very healthy fruit. The extract is made from the seed and the pulp of the grapefruit and the peel is crushed and made into aromatherapy oil.
