Hydrangea Root Extract

Species Name: hydrangea arborescens

Also Known As: Mountain hydrangea, seven bark, wild hydrangea, common hydrangea

The hydrangea plant has been present in North American for 70 million years, according to fossil records.

It has also been found native in Asia. In most instances, it grows near water, usually in marshes.

Its name comes from the Greek word meaning water vase. Although it gained popularity throughout Europe as an ornamental plant, it also had medicinal uses, as indicated through its wide use by the Cherokee Indians.

The ancient Chinese also used the root of the plant.

Home Remedies Using Hydrangea Root Extract:

Benefits of Hydrangea Root Extract:

The Cherokee Indians used the root extract to treat kidney disease, especially kidney stones. It also works well as a treatment for sore muscles and for burns. It was used in traditional Chinese medicine as a treatment for malaria.

In modern science, hydrangea root extract has been shown to have higher antioxidant power in liver tissue than other types of commonly found supplements, including milk thistle and turmeric, even when combined. It has also be used to treat kidney gravel, which are very small stones often produced by the kidneys, usually passed with a small amount of pain after the herb is used to treat the condition.

These are smaller kidney stones. It helps the person to pass these stones and also reduces pain associated with the passing of them.

In another application, some have used the root extract as a treatment for chronic chest pain. This pain is often caused by bronchitis.

Hydrangea root extract has also shown effectiveness as a treatment of edema, a condition in which the body retains water. In some cases, it works in greater form as a diuretic than other herbs. However, though the root powder form is more effective as a diuretic, it is important to note that this particular form is less ideal for reducing pain.

Side Effects of Hydrangea Root Extract:

There are some side effects possible for those taking this extract. It can cause dizziness in some people and has been linked as a cause of headaches.

It is not recommended to be used for long periods of time, but can be used safely, within manufacturer’s dosing recommendations for limited use.

Those who have kidney problems or live complications should avoid using this product unless a doctor instructs him to do so. Do not use in conjunction with medications until you speak to your doctor.
