Hops Extract

Species Name: Humulus Lupulus

Also Known As: Cannabinaceae, Common hops, European hops, hop, hop strobile, Hopfen (German), houblon (French), humulus, lupulin, lupulus, Lupuli strobulus, spent hops

This climbing perennial plant has a hardy, twisting stem with heart-shaped flowers. When cultivated, the vines are encouraged to grow on strings or wires to support the plant.

The hop has both female and male flowers that grow on separate plants. Non-pollinated female flowers are grown and harvested for brewing and medicinal purposes.

The male plants are culled to prevent pollination. Native to the temperate Northern Hemisphere, historically this plant has been used since ancient times by a variety of countries.

What is Hops Extract? Hops extract is made from the female flowers of the plant. These flowers (sometimes called cones) are harvested in autumn when they are a yellowish-green color. Hops should be stored away from light and air or they will lose potency.
