Also known as: Bruisewort, Healing herb, Nipbone and Blackwort.

What is Comfrey Extract? Comfrey Extract is made from the dried roots of the comfrey plant which when mixed with pure ethyl alcohol and then percolated creates the extract itself.

It can also be made using a wide range of other liquids and oils to create different strengths of the extract as well as allowing it to be used to treat a wide range of aliments and illnesses.

Comfrey extract can also be combined with other herbs to help combat illnesses.

The leaves of the plant can also be used in a home remedy to create a poultice with comfrey extract.

Comfrey Extract has an abundance of vitamin A, potassium and also calcium which makes it very versatile.

It is specifically effective for the use as an anti-inflammatory, decongestant, rapid bone healing and analgesic.

Comfrey Extract is exceptional as it has so many different uses that can be applied or drank. Follow recommended dosage instructions.

  • When made into a strong tincture and applied with a clean cloth to swellings, bruises, sprains and even fractures this can help to reduce pain and other related problems.
  • It can also help to soothe and calm several different types of burns on the skin, such as sunburn and accidental burns.
  • When used in a poultice; by adding a few drops of comfrey extract into plain cream and using the leaves of the Comfrey plant rather than the roots, it can help to treat ulcers, warts and even athletes foot.

There have been a few studies done using European creams used to treat lower back pain, muscle aches and pains, and arthritis pain when applied to the affected areas of the body.

There was at least on of these studies that suggests high concentrations were more helpful than lower concentrations of the cream.

Side Effects of Comfrey Extract:

If taken internally, comfrey could potentially cause serious liver damage. Numerous studies have shown that comfrey includes toxic compounds called pyrrolizidine alkaloids or PAs, which can lead to serious liver damage.

Animal research has demonstrated these chemical substances result in the development of liver tumors.

Only use comfrey extract for short periods of time (creams should not be used more than 10 days at a time) as toxic compounds can be absorbed in the skin. Not recommended for children. Check with your physician prior to using.

Do not apply to open wounds or broken skin.

Comfrey should not be used if you have liver disease or alcoholism.

Pregnant and breastfeeding women should not use these products, nor children.
