Cilantro Extract

Species name: Coriandrum sativum

Also known as: Chinese parsley, coriander leaves, Mexican Parsley

What is cilantro extract? The herb has been cultivated in the Far East for thousands of years. In the 16th century it was known to be used in the treatment for ringworm.

It is believed the conquistador of Spain introduced it to Mexico and Peru where it went on to become an intricate part of their cuisine along with it being used in Caribbean and Indian foods.

It is possibly one of the first plants transferred to America with the leaves rather than the seeds (called coriander) being the more popular.

The health benefits of cilantro and its extract are due to the active constituents such as alpha-pinene, lauric acid and p-cymene as well as its flavonoid content which includes quercitin.

Some of its compounds have been beneficial in guarding cells against oxidative damage.

It is a good source of vitamins A, C and K as well as beta-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin.

Benefits of Cilantro Extract:

Cilantro extract is made of freshly harvested whole leaves soaked in alcohol and is being included in many current detoxification programs for its ability to work as a natural chelation treatment against heavy metals such as mercury, lead and aluminum that have leeched into the body's systems.

A newer concern is that vapors released from dental fillings when food is chewed is thought to be responsible for mercury poisoning.

This is something to consider since mercury poisoning may be responsible for auto-immune diseases, chronic viral, bacterial and/or fungal issues, headaches, aching joints and can be responsible for many cases of unexplained chronic fatigue, depression or emotional instability as well as decreased mental clarity.

According to the Heart Disease Research Foundation in June of 2004, localized metal deposits in the body have been shown to foster growth of such infectious micro-organisms as herpes simplex 1 and 2, Chlamydia trachomatis and cytomegalovirus.

Heavy metals also interfere with the antibiotics or antivirals prescribed to control the microorganisms.

Cilantro extract can be taken for the removal of these heavy metal deposits and successful infection eradication. It is taken along with Chlorella and aged garlic extract to carry the toxins out of the body through elimination.

Studies show cilantro's antimicrobial properties to be an effective bactericidal against Salmonella, a common cause of food borne illness.

Cilantro extract is beneficial as it has been a proven effective anti-inflammatory to alleviate symptoms of such conditions as arthritis.

The extract as well as fresh or dried leaves served cooked or along with other salad greens will help prevent nausea, aids in digestion and relieves intestinal gas as well as helping to settle the stomach.

It is a good source of dietary fiber and helps lower bad cholesterol (LDL) while raising beneficial cholesterol (HDL).

Cilantro is a good source of iron as well as magnesium and has a reputation as an antibacterial.
