Osmanthus Tea

Also Known As: Osmanthus Flower Tea, Gui Hua, Osmanthus fragrans, Olea fragrans, Olea ovalis, Osmanthus longibracteatus, Osmanthus macrocarpus, Tea Olive, Fragrant Olive, Sweet Olive, and Kinmokusei.

Osmanthus is a flowering plant generally native to temperate Asia from the Caucasus to Japan.

This genus of around 30 species in the family Oleaceae, also includes one species, O. americanus that is native to North America in the southeastern United States, from Texas to Virginia.

Osmanthus evergreen plants range from small trees to shrubs. The tiny, gold-orange flower buds are produced in spring, summer or autumn.

Each flower is about half an inch long with a white base and four-lobed tubular petals. Several of the Osmanthus species have a strong, unforgettable fragrance that can be smelled from far away.

This flower is widely used in the perfume industry as an ingredient in some of the world’s most famous fragrances.

Osmanthus Flower Tea has a delicate floral and fruit aroma. The Osmanthus fruit is small, dark blue to purple in color and hard-skinned.

Osmanthus tea in China is a combination of dried Sweet Osmanthus flowers, of the Osmanthus fragrans species, with black or green tea leaves.

This is done in the same manner as the more common jasmine tea combines both jasmine flowers, and tea leaves.
