Noni Juice

Species name: m. citrifolia.

Also known as: Great morinda, Indian mulberry, Beach mulberry, or Noni, Nono, Mengkudu, Nonu, and Ach.

Noni is known by several different names depending on where you are.

Though the names may differ, all of them still come from the noni plant and have the same characteristics and benefits.

What is Noni? Though native to Southeast Asia, Noni is a small shrub or tree that has been spread by men to India and even into the Pacific Islands.

It can now be found as far as French Polynesia (including the island of Tahiti) and in some parts of the West Indies.

The Noni tree matures in about 18 months. The tree has an average yield between four and eight kg of fruit every month of the year.

It has a high tolerance for saline soil, drought, and secondary soil, and as such, can survive in a variety of habitats.

Both the flowers and fruits of the Noni tree bloom all year.

The fruit, however, is a multiple fruit that has a pungent odor when ripening.

A multiple fruit is formed from a cluster of flowers, each flower producing a fruit that grows into a single mass.

The odor is so unpleasant that some have nicknamed noni fruit as "cheese fruit" or "vomit fruit."

From the early stages until maturity, the noni fruit will turn from green to yellow and then nearly white.

It has a strong smell and bitter taste, and is therefore referred to as a starvation fruit.

It is usually used as a staple food or mixed in other dishes such as curry.
