Palmarosa

Species name: Palmarosa oil is extracted from Cymbopogon martini (also known as Cymbopogon martinii var. martini) of the Gramineae family.

Also known as: Palmarosa is known as East Indian and Turkish geranium, as well as Indian rosha and motia.

Palmarosa is a wild grass, with long slender stems, terminal flowering tops and fragrant grassy leaves.  There are two varieties of grass from which palmarosa can be extracted - motia and sofia grass.

Home Remedies using Palmarosa Essential Oil:

Palmarosa essential oil is fast gaining in popularity when used in essential oil therapy and aromatherapy. 

It has great properties for skin care, is used to relieve body aches and muscle pain.

Palmarosa oil has a sweet floral scent.  It is a very light yellow tinted oil, and a thin water-like texture.

Palmarosa oil has a rosy scent, and is often used by unscrupulous essential oil dealers to make rose essential oil go farther.

It is used in toiletries, perfume, and makeups. It is also used as a flavoring for tobacco. 

Palmarosa oil is made from dried grass, before it has a chance to go to seed, and extracted by steam distillation.

Benefits of Palmarosa Essential Oil:

Palmarosa oil is good for cleansing wounds and killing germs.  It also is effective at killing virus germs and is good for anyone suffering from dehydration, and aids in digestion.

Palmarosa oil is calming.  It has an uplifting, positive effect, and clears the mind.  It is used to relieve exhaustion.

Palmarosa oil is good during periods of convalescence.  It lowers fevers, aids in digestion, and is known to clear intestinal infections.  It relieves muscle pain and stiffness.  Palmarosa oil is a good moisturizer and skin cell regrowth stimulant.

Palmarosa essential oil can be used in a diffuser, simmer pot, or steam baths, for aromatherapy.

It can be blended with other oils and carriers to produce good massage oil.

It can be added to a bath, or a few drops can enhance cream and lotion bases.

Side Effects of Palmarosa Essential Oil:

Palmarosa oil has no known side effects.  A skin patch test should be performed before initial use.
