Cajeput

Species name: Cajuput oil is extracted from Melaleuca cajuputi of the Myrtaceae family.

Also known as: white wood, weeping tea tree, white tea tree, or weeping paperback, cajeput or cajuput oil, leum cajuputi, oil of cajuput, U.S.P. melaleuca, cajuputum.

Cajeput oil has a sweet, but penetrating smell. Occasionally called the white tea tree, the cajuput tree is native to the Malayan coastal plains.

A vigorously growing evergreen tree, the cajeput has a white, spongy bark, and a crooked trunk. It is known in ancient India as Kayaputi and is highly revered in the East for its multitude of uses.
